Why Urban Renewal?
Because cities are growing faster than the people living in them can keep up.
India is urbanising at a pace the world has rarely seen. In the upcoming years, nearly half the country’s population will live in cities. This is just a statistic; it’s more like a signal. A signal that the way we build, maintain, and think about urban spaces will determine the quality of life for hundreds of millions of people for generations to come.
But here is what the growth numbers do not always show: who gets left behind in that growth. The footpath simply ends abruptly. The public park that only some people feel safe using. The neighbourhood that gets beautified, while the one next to it stays all forgotten. The woman who simply avoids a public space because it was never designed with her safety in mind.
Urban renewal is about making cities work better - for everyone who lives in them, not just the ones with the loudest voices or the most square footage. At SS Foundation, we believe that a truly modern city is all clean, green, inclusive, and built around the dignity of every person who walks its streets. That’s the Urban India we are working toward.
